Geri's a solo star as sexy gig wows gay fans
By RICHARD SIMPSON
GERI HALLIWELL made her live debut as a
solo performer yesterday with a set of
outrageously raunchy routines.
Thousands of clubbers including close pal George
Michael went wild as the former Ginger Spice
simulated sex with semi-naked male dancers.
She also grabbed her crotch and screamed: "I'm
Later one male fan was invited on stage and tied to a
chair before Geri stripped off her skin-tight T-shirt
and cropped leggings and began writhing around
suggestively in front of him.
Geri's first solo show since quitting the Spice Girls
came at the end of a fund-raising night for victims of
the Soho gay pub bombing at the Astoria club in
London's West End.
Afterwards George - who helped Geri relaunch her
pop career - described her set as "f****** brilliant."
Earlier the former Wham! star had spent half an hour
backstage offering Geri encouragement and helping
her practise her racy routines.
But if she was nervous, it certainly didn't show when
she bounded out on to the stage at 1.30am dressed in
a red bolero jacket and skintight black skirt.
Her spectacular entrance - heralded by a blinding
flash of light and deafening drumbeats - drove the
mostly-male audience of more than 2000 crazy.
Geri, 26, ran through three tracks from her new
album, plus an encore. George, who arrived at the gig
with boyfriend Kenny Goss on his arm, watched from
the VIP balcony.
The pair, who punched the air and sang along as
Geri's first number Mi Chico Latino blasted out, were
joined by Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant, TV host Janet
Street-Porter and Geri's Spanish mum Anna.
Geri referred to George throughout the gig. At one
point she joked: "It's a pity all the best men are gay.
Georgie, my heart belongs to you."
Current hit Look At Me and ballad Walk Away
followed. The encore was an even raunchier version
of Look At Me.
Proud mum Anna said later: "My Geri's such a star,
though it was all a bit loud. My ears are still ringing."
